Terrasvogels and Olympia Haarlem split
Nederlands
SANTPOORT-ZUID (Neth.) - On a very windy Saturday-afternoon (May 9), Terrasvogels and FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem split their double-header.

Terrasvogels won the opener 5-2 thanks to a productive second inning in which Olympia Haarlem committed two costly errors.

In the second game, it was Olympia Haarlem that won with the same score. Jessie van Aalst homered for Terrasvogels.

(May 9)

Game 1

In the first game, Terrasvogels was outhit 10-3 by Olympia Haarlem, but nevertheless registered a 3-run difference victory. Two of these Terrasvogels-hits contributed to a 5-run rally in the second inning. Olympia Haarlem then made two costly errors, resulting in all five runs being unearned.

After being retired in order in the first at bat by Eva Voortman, nine batters stepped up to the plate in the second inning, scoring five runs with two outs! It all began when Marisèla de Wind struckout, but was able to reach first base on a passed ball. She then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Alyssa Taylor and a single by Lizzie Clarijs, who ended up on second base herself. With two outs, Myrthe Smid reached on an error, which enabled both runners to score. Smid then stole second base, then reached third when a throwing error followed a walk for Ella Krommendijk. The bases then were loaded when Kimberly Jones also walked. The bases were then cleared when Lisa Waasdorp followed with a 3-run triple to make it 5-0.

In the remainder of the game, Terrasvogels added only one more basehit and stranded two runners in scoring position.

In the first and second inning, Olympia Haarlem failed to open the score itself. The team left two runners (one on third base) in the first inning, then the bases loaded in the next at bat. Trailing 5-0, Olympia scored its first run in the third. Dinet Oosting led off with a double and scored on an one-out single by Stephanie Ruiter.

In the next three innings, Olympia left a runner in scoring position each at bat. The second run was then added in the seventh. Merel Oosterveld led off with a single, then Stephanie Ruiter singled with two outs. A single by Rachel van Veen then accounted for the run. Hereafter, the bases were loaded when Brenda Beers reached on a bunt-single, but Olympia then left the bases loaded again, as winning pitcher Ginger de Weert ended the inning and the game with a strikeout.

In total, Olympia Haarlem left 12 runners, including eight in scoring position.

Next, Mariëlle Vleugels hit a 3-run triple to clear the bases and lift the lead to 4-0. Moments later, she scored the fifth run after an illegal pitch.

In the remainder of the game, Olympia Haarlem added only one more basehit and reached base only two more times. In these four at bats, Malou van Dusschoten and Anna-Bè Bartels (who pitched the final two innings) retired 12 of the 14 batters they faced.
