DSS closes exhibition season with wins vs. Terrasvogels, Olympia Haarlem
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem, Terrasvogels and DSS closed the exhibition season with a 3-way series against each other in Haarlem. Despite the rainy, windy and cold conditions in most parts of the country, the complete schedule could be played on Saturday (April 11).

Initially, Olympia Haarlem was to host the annual Jan de Wit Tournament again, which is always played in the last weekend before the start of the regular season. However, the playing format of the regular season in the new Golden League was announced late and also the opening date changed from April 18 to April 11 to April 18. In the end, it was not possible for Olympia Haarlem to invite (foreign) teams to participate in the Jan de Wit Tournament, resulting in the cancellation of the event. Instead, Olympia Haarlem, Terrasvogels and DSS played a mini-event against each other.

On Saturday, DSS registered two small victories. It nipped Terrasvogels 3-2, then won 4-3 vs. Olympia Haarlem. The first game of the day between Terrasvogels and Olympia Haarlem ended in a 2-2 tie.

For the teams, it was their final preparations for the upcoming new season, which opens next Saturday April 18.
Olympia Haarlem opens with a double-header at Tex Town Tigers, starting at 2 PM, while DSS meets Terrasvogels at home, starting at 3 PM.

Game 3 - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem vs. DSS

The third game today also ended with a small score. And it again was DSS that left the field victorious, winning 4-3 vs. Olympia Haarlem.

It was Olympia Haarlem that opened the score with two runs in the first at bat. Eva Voortman led off with a single and stole second base. With one out, Dinet Oosting and Mariëlle Vleugels hit back-to-back doubles to make it 2-0.

DSS then scored its first run in the second inning. After Olympia-pitcher Eva Voortman had struckout four of the first five batters she faced, she gave up a 2-out triple to Judith van Tiel. Moments later, she scored when Lorraine Kieft singled, but the latter was then caught stealing to end the inning.

Hereafter, Voortman retired nine of the next ten batters, but then DSS srruck with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, which was to be the last at bat in this game. Dominique Burger led off with a single, then then bases got loaded when Kelly Koeman and Denice van Dijk both singled with one out. With two outs, the tying run was scored when Annemiek de Rover was hit by a pitch, then two runs were added when Judith van Tiel followed with a double to make it 4-2 in favor of DSS.

In the bottom of the sixth, Olympia got close to turn the game its way. Merel Oosterveld and Dinet Oosting began with singles, which led to a pitching change. Starter Quincey Catsburg was relieved by Svenja de Lincel, who earlier had pitched a fine game against Terrasvogels. The two runners moved on a flyout, then a wild pitch narrowed the deficit to 4-3. A walk for pinch-hitter Cheska Ham followed, then a grounder by Rachel van Veen ended in an out. The bases were loaded when Stephanie Ruiter walked, but De Lincel then finished with a strikeout to end the game.
