Sparks Haarlem scores 23 runs vs. Tex Town Tigers
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - League-leader Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem registered two more mercy-rule victories, as it won 10-0 and 13-1 vs. Tex Town Tigers on Saturday (May 16).

With today's wins, Sparks Haarlem remains unbeaten and is now 10-0. The team now has won 40 consecutive regular season-games since the start of last season. In 2014, Sparks Haarlem remained unbeaten, winning all 30 regular season-games, as well as all games in the Play-Offs and Holland Series.

Pitcher Dagmar Bloeming and 3B Virginie Anneveld were still with the team today. Bloeming didn't get into action, but Anneveld played in both games. Initially, they played their final games for the team a week ago, as they were scheduled to fly to the USA last Wednesday. However, there travel documents are not finalized yet. The two will make their professional debut in the National Pro Fastpitch this year playing for Pennsylvania Rebellion. But while they are waiting for their visa, the two will remain playing for Sparks Haarlem until their departure to the States.

(May 16)

Game 1

In the opener, Sparks Haarlem scored its first two runs in the first inning off of Lindsey Meadows, who threw three innings. Chantal Versluis led off with a single and advanced to third base on an outfield-error. With one out, Areke Spel was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Next, Karin Tuk struckout, but reached on a passed ball, that enabled Versluis to score the first run. Moments later, Tuk was forced out on a grounder by Virginie Anneveld, but that also led to the second run.

A 7-run rally followed in the third at bat with only two runs being earned. First, Chantal Versluis led off with a homerun. Hereafter, the bases got loaded when Anne Blaauwgeers reached on an error, Areke Spel singled and Karin Tuk walked. Next, Virginie Anneveld brought in two runs with a double. A single by Cindy van der Zanden plus following throwing error led to the next two runs and she then scored herself on a sacrifice fly by Kiki Draaijer. Damishah Charles then tripled and scored on a following double by Chantal Versluis in her second at bat in the inning.

Sparks Haarlem reached the 10-run difference with two outs in the fourth inning off of new pitcher Shaneequa Kock. With one out, Karin Tuk singled, then scored on a 2-out single by Maxime van Dalen that ended the game.

Game 2

Sparks Haarlem trailed briefly, as Tex Town Tigers opened the score in the first inning off of Kirsten Scheele. Lead-off hitter Nadine Marinus was hit by a pitch, then moved to third base when a throwing error was made on a bunt by Shaneequa Kock. Moments later, she scored on a single by Annemiek Jansen. But that would be the lone run for Tex Town Tigers today and it was appropriate that it was scored by Nadine Marinus, who today played in her 500th game in the main squad of the Enschede-club.

Sparks Haarlem reacted with three runs. Chantal Versluis led off with a single and stole second base, then Anne Blaauwgeers walked. After a double steal, the bases got loaded with one out when Karin Tuk walked. A single by Virginie Anneveld brought in two runs and gave her team a 2-1 lead. A single by Maxime van Dalen then added another run.

Four runs were scored in the second inning on four hits, including a runscoring single by Areke Spel and a 2-run single by Maxime van Dalen. The fourth run in the inning was scored on an error.

A 6-run rally then followed in the third at bat. Damishah Charles led off with a walk, which brought in the third TTT-pitcher. Chantal Versluis then singled and the two runners advanced on a flyout. They then scored both on a following single by Areke Spel. With two outs, the bases got loaded when Virginie Anneveld and Kiki Draaijer both walked. Nathalie Gosewehr then entered the game as pinch-hitter and cleared the bases with a 3-run double, then scored herself moments later on a single by Cindy van der Zanden. With that, Sparks Haarlem increased the lead to 13-1.

In the top of the fourth, Tex Town Tigers reached base one more time, but Kirsten Scheele then ended the game with two strikeouts.
