Game 2
The second game of today's double-header had a lot of suspense and almost led to the first loss of the season for Ban-Topa Future Stars.
The Amsterdam-team trailed 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, then rallied for five runs to win 11-10, scoring the last three runs with two outs!
The teams combined on 26 basehits, 14 of which were hit by the home team.
Jeannevian Kinburn collected four basehits, while Emily Stenzler reached base five times.
Onze Gezellen opened the score in the first inning when Babs de Jonge singled and scored on a triple by Laura van der Bos.
Ban-Topa reacted with two runs in its first at bat.
Emily Stenzler and Jeannevian Kinburn (bunt) then singled and scored on a grouder by Jeaniven Sophia and a sac-fly by Alyssa Dronenburg.
Ban-Topa increased its lead to 3-1 in the second inning when Stenzler tripled and scored on a single by Kinburn.
Onze Gezellen then rallied for six runs in the third at bat.
With one out and Shannon Hetem (error) on second base, Patricia Hesterman singled.
A force play was set up by walking Babs de Jonge intentionally, but then Laura van der Bos followed with a baseclearing triple that gave the Haarlem-team a 4-3 lead.
The latter then scored on a sac-fly by Amy Udink.
Next, Fiona Sewalt singled and scored on a double by Daniëlle Gardeniers, who then scored on a single by Iris Dweelaard to make it 7-3.
Onze Gezellen added another run in the fourth when Shannon Hetem scored on an error.
Trailing 8-3, Ban-Topa answered with three runs in the fifth.
Stenzler reached on an error and scored on a passed ball, then Kinburn and Sophia both scored on a single by Shirley Jacobs, but the team also stranded two runners.
Onze Gezellen increased its lead in the next two innings.
In the sixth, Babs de Jonge walked with two outs and scored the third triple in this game by Laura van der Bos.
In the seventh, Fiona Sewalt led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball.
Hereafter, Onze Gezellen left the bases loaded.
But the team was now leading 10-6.
However, that lead was not enough.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ban-Topa had a strong finish.
With one out, Shirley Jacobs singled and scored when an outfield-error followed a single by Ylaine van de Hove.
The latter scored when Lee Ann Craanberg singled.
A grounder then accounted for the second out, meaning Onze Gezellen was one out away from a victory.
But then Darlenes Marinez connected well and hit a 2-run homerun that tied the score!
Moments later, Emily Stenzler reached second base on an error, then scored the winning run when another error followed a single by Jeannevian Kinburn.
