Game 2
There is an unwritten rule that 'a walk scores'.
And that was underscored again in this game, as all three runs were scored by runners who had reached base via a walk.
The game was a fine pitching duel between Sara Moulton (Centrals) and Marjolein Merkx (Roef!).
Centrals opened the score in the first at bat.
With one out, Emma Wojcík walked, then moved to third base when Franka van Dijk's single was followed by an outfield-error.
The bases got loaded when Petya Sokolová also singled, then a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Pearce gave the home team the laed.
A grounder followed, meaning two runners were left behind.
Sara Moulton retired the first seven batters in a row, then walked Jasmin Kaiaruna with one out in the top of the third inning.
A strikeout followed, but then Wies Ligtvoet singled.
Next, Eva van Knegsel doubled to bring in the tying run, but with runners on second and third base, a grounder ended the at bat.
Centrals immediately re-took the lead in the bottom of the third.
Jasmin Carlson led off with a walk, moved on an one-out single by Franka van Dijk and scored on a 2-out single by Stephanie Pearce.
Again, two runners were left behind, but Centrals was now leading 2-1.
In the remainder of the game only two more batters would reach base and Centrals held on to the minimal lead.
Roef! got a chance to come alongside in the fourth.
With two outs, Nathalie Hosten singled and Ilse van Kerkoerle doubled.
To set up a force play, but also to take the bat out of her hands, Jasmin Kaiaruna was walked intentionally, loading the bases.
The three runners then stranded when a groundout ended the inning.
In the fifth, Eva van Knegsel walked with one out (and stranded on second base), but Sara Moulton then retired seven batters in a row.
In the seventh, with two outs, Wies Ligtvoet singled, but was forced out, ending the game.
