 HCAW wins big vs. Gryphons

 BUSSUM (Neth.) -
On Sunday (April 19), HCAW succcessfully made up its double-header against Gryphons, which had rained out a week earlier.
HCAW won both games via the mercy-rule, handing Gryphons two big losses, 9-2 and 12-0.
With this, HCAW remained unbeaten and shares first place, while Gryphons remained winless.

Game 1
In the opener, HCAW briefly faced an 1-0 deficit, as Gryphons opened the score in the top of the first inning off of Ilona Marcelis.
Kehli Washington led off with a walk, then Marcelis made a fielding error on a grounder by Judith van Ekeren and gave up a runscoring single to Maureen van Poorten.
The lead was shortlived, as HCAW answered with two runs in its first at bat.
Dervisa Mutic led off with a walk and moved on a grounder, then stole third base.
With one out, Laura van Essen was hit by a pitch.
With two outs, both scored when an error was made on a grounder by Marley Martis.
Both teams were then held scoreless in the next two innings, but then Gryphons came alongside in the fourth.
With one out, Linda Hanegraaf reached on an infield-hit, then scored the tying run when Charlotte Drijvers followed with a double.
HCAW again reacted with two runs.
With one out, the bases got loaded when Milot van Doesburg singled, Ilona Marcelis reached on an error and Lindsay Gase reached on a bunt-single.
A walk for Dervisa Mutic and single by Kaylee Fortilus then accounted for the runs and gave HCAW a 4-2 lead, but the team also left three runners behind.
In the sixth inning, HCAW rallied for five runs to reach the 7-run difference and end the game.
Lindsay Gase led off with a single and went on to score when Kaylee Fortilus struckout, but reached on a passed ball.
A single by Laura van Essen followed, then Marley Martis delivered a 2-run single with two outs.
After Wendy Bierman was hit by a pitch, Milot van Doesburg and Ilona Marcelis followed with RBI-singles to make it 9-2 and end the game.

Game 2
In the second game, HCAW needed less than four innings to decide the game, as it shutout Gryphons 12-0.
Leading 1-0, the Bussum-squad rallied for ten runs in the second inning!
Gryphons registered only three basehits, including one off of starter Anouk Sassen, who was supported with a double play in the third inning.
The team got into scoring position twice.
In the first inning, Charlotte Drijvers stranded on second base and in the fourth, Maruja Isbouts was left at second base.
HCAW scored its first run in the first at bat with two outs.
Laura van Essen then reached on an error and went on to score on a single by Anouk Sassen.
In the second inning, ten runs were scored.
Fourteen batters stepped up to the plate and collected nine basehits, including two by Wendy Bierman and Ilona Marcelis.
HCAW got the bases loaded quickly, then Odette Kuipers delivered a 2-run single.
After the bases were loaded again, Dervisa Mutic cleared the bases with a 3-run triple.
Laura van Essen then walked and after a strikeout accounted for the first out, two runs were added when Marley Martis also tripled.
Two wild pitches and a sac-fly by Odette Kuipers then completed the rally and lifted the lead to 11-0.
HCAW scored its twelfth run in the third when Anouk Sassen walked and scored on an error.
