Olympia Haarlem wins twice vs. Tex Town Tigers
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem won twice on Saturday (May 23) vs. Tex Town Tigers, but the scores weren't that big.

In the opener, Olympia Haarlem won only 3-0. In the second game, the home team couldn't really take some distance and led only 5-3 after three innings, but went on to win 8-4.

Tex Town Tigers, that promoted after last season to the big league, suffered some bigger losses in the past few weeks, including five games in which they gave up 10 or more runs.

(May 23)

Game 1

In the first game, Olympia Haarlem opened with two runs in the first inning off of Alana Westerhof. The first run was scored simply. Lead-off hitter Eva Voortman reached on an error, stole second base, advanced on a passed ball, then scored on a following single by next batter Dinet Oosting. The latter then also advanced on a passed ball, then scored the second run on an one-out single by Mariëlle Vleugels.

In the next four innings, Olympia Haarlem reached base only three more times and so, it couldn't take more distance. In the third, Eva Voortman led off with a single, but then a double play followed after a line drive by Dinet Oosting. In the fourth, Stephanie Ruiter singled with one out, but stranded. And in the fifth, Voortman singled (bunt) again with two outs and stole second base, but also was left behind.

In the meantime, Tex Town Tigers got three runners in scoring position in its first five innings. In the second, Lindsey Meadows led off with a walk, moved on a wild pitch, but stranded on second base. In the fourth, two runners got into scoring position. With one out, Annemiek Jansen doubled and Lindsey Meadows was hit by a pitch. The two advanced to second and third base on a grounder, but were left there.

In the sixth inning, trailing 2-0, Tex Town Tigers got close to come alongside off of Mariëlle Vleugels, who had taken over the pitching in the fourth. With one out, Shaneequa Kock walked, Annemiek Jansen doubled and Lindsey Meadows walked to load the bases, which led to a pitching change. Starter Eva Voortman returned as pitcher and ended the threat by striking out the next two batters.

Olympia Haarlem then added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Stephanie Tofft led off with a single, then scored on three consecutive wild pitches to make it a 3-0 score. Hereafter, Stephanie Ruiter and Rachel van Veen both singled, but were left behind.

In the top of the seventh, Tex Town Tigers got runners on second and third base with two outs, but Voortman then ended the game with a strikeout.

Two players appeared in their first game of the season, being Aafje van Baal (Tex Town Tigers) and Rosanne de Vries (Olympia). The two returned home earlier in the week after completing their college-season in the USA.

Game 2

In the second game, it was Tex Town Tigers that opened the score with one run in the first at bat and it could have been more. Nadine Marinus led off the game with a triple, then scored on a following infield-hit by Shaneequa Kock. Hereafter, Annemiek Jansen reached on a bunt-single and the two runners moved into scoring position via a sac-bunt by Lindsey Meadows. A walk for Laura Wissink with two outs loaded the bases, but three runners stranded when a grounder ended the at bat.

Olympia Haarlem answered with two runs in its first at bat. Eva Voortman and Dinet Oosting (bunt) led off with singles, then both advanced when an error followed the second hit. A sacrifice fly by Stephanie Tofft and single by Mariëlle Vleugels then made it 2-1.

Tex Town Tigers then got the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the second inning when Nadine Marinus, Shaneequa Kock and Annemiek Jansen all singled. But they all stranded.

Olympia Haarlem then scored three runs in the bottom of the second, which were all unearned, as the TTT-defense committed two errors. With one out, Maranca Ham singled and with two outs, Eva Voortman reached on an error. With runners on second and third base, another error followed on a grounder by Dinet Oosting, which led to two runs. Later in the at bat, Mariëlle Vleugels added an RBI-single to make it 5-1.

Tex Town Tigers then was productive again in its third at bat, scoring two runs. With one out, Laura Wissink walked and Aafje van Baal doubled, then the bases got loaded when Isa Los also walked. A pick-off at first base then led to a throwing error, which enabled both Wissink and Van Baal to score. Los also tried to score and appeared to do so, as a high throw from rightfield to the plate followed, but she was eliminated as catcher Dinet Oosting was able to pick up the ball and get it in time to pitcher Stephanie Tofft, who tagged out Los at the plate.

From the fourth inning on, Olympia Haarlem started to take more distance, scoring a run in each of the next three innings. In the fourth, Dinet Oosting singled with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Stephanie Ruiter. In the fifth, Rosanne de Vries singled with two outs, then her pinch-runner Mascha Meloni scored on an error. In the sixth, pinch-hitter Desiree Adriaansz singled with one out and went to score on a sac-fly by Brenda Beers.

Tex Town Tigers got two runners in scoring position again in the sixth off of Rosanne de Vries, who had taken over the pitching in the fifth. TTT had runners on second and third base in the sixth with one out, but they stranded as a line out and flyout followed.

In the seventh, Stephanie Tofft returned in the circle and gave up TTT's fourth run. The first two batters reached on an error, then a grounder by Isa Los accounted for the run, but Tofft then ended the game with a strikeout.
