Game 2
In the second game today, Sparks Haarlem led 4-0 when the seventh inning began, but then the Talent Team scored twice and had the bases loaded with only one out.
A surprise win was avoided, as Sparks Haarlem hold onto the lead, but won only 4-2.
Sparks Haarlem opened the score with two runs in the second inning off of Ilona Andringa.
The righthander played in her first game of the season, as she returned home earlier the week after completion of her college-season in the USA.
In the second at bat, Virginie Anneveld and Anne Blaauwgeers led off with singles.
The bases got loaded with one out when Cindy van der Zanden also singled.
With two outs, Chantal Versluis delivered a 2-run single.
Sparks Haarlem then stranded two runners in the third inning and was retired in order in the fourth, but added two runs in the fifth.
Nathalie Gosewehr led off with a walk, then moved to third base on an one-out single by Karin Tuk.
She then scored when a (sacrifice) fly into the outfield by Areke Spel ended in an error.
This brought Tuk to third base and she scored the next run on a single by Manoa Weijgertse, but two more runners were left behind.
Sparks Haarlem-pitcher Kirsten Scheele retired the first ten batters she faced.
With one out in the fourth, Annemiek Jansen reached for the Juniors on an error with one out, but was caught stealing.
In the fifth inning, the Talent Team broke the No-Hitter when Rachel van Veen led off with a single.
She advanced on a sac-bunt by Tammie Lijbers and a grounder, but then stranded on third base.
In the sixth, Wies Ligtvoet led off with a single for the Dutch Junior Team, but she later was forced out.
And so, we enter the seventh inning.
While Sparks Haarlem led only 4-0, it appeared to be comfortable enough.
But that changed soon thereafter, as the Talent Team not only scored twice, it even got the chance of coming alongside or do something more.
Laura Wissink led off with a single, then Rachel van Veen reached on a bunt-single.
Ismay Poot was inserted as pinch-runner for Wissink, then everyone was safe on a sacrifice bunt by Tammie Lijbers.
With the bases loaded, Isa Los walked to bring in a run.
After a flyout, the next run was scored when Wies Ligtvoet singled.
And so, it was now a 4-2 score with the bases still loaded and only one out.
But that was all that Kirsten Scheele would allow.
A flyout followed, then Scheele finished the runscoring threat, the inning and the game with a strikeout, her eighth in the game.
With the win, Kirsten Scheele win her league-leading seventh game.
