Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS won twice on Saturday (May 30) vs. Alcmaria Victrix with the same score. The Haarlem-squad twice won with 9-2, ending both games via the mercy-rule.

With today's losses, the losing streak of Alcmaria Victrix extended to 16 games since the start of the season.

By winning twice, DSS moved into a tie for fourth place with Tex Town Tigers, which today split its double-header with Terrasvogels.

(May 30)

Game 1

In the opener, American pitcher Krista Menke made her debut for DSS. Before traveling to the Netherlands, the righthander completed her fourth and last (senior) season in the team of North Dakota State University. There, she was 34-6 in the 2015 college-season, appearing in 46 games (41 starts). She struckout 391 batters, walked 105 and gave up 158 basehits in 266 innings, finishing with a 2.11 ERA.

In her debut in the Dutch big league, she struckout 12 batters and threw a 2-hitter to earn her first victory.

After striking out the first batter she faced in the first at bat, Menke gave up a single to Quita Borst, but then two outs followed. In the second inning, the American hurler struckout the side.

DSS struck with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Melissa de Greef and Annemiek de Rover led off with singles, then scored when, with one out, Denice van Dijk and Kelly Koeman also singled. Next, Eva Halman was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. After an infield-fly, a pick-off was attempted at first base, but at the same time, Van Dijk scored the third run.

After Alcmaria-pitcher Evelien de Rover retired the side in the second inning, the Alkmaar-squad narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the third at bat. With one out, Krista Menke hit both Evelien de Rover and Katy Moore with a pitch. By the way, in her last college-season, Menke hit 39 batters. A force out on a grounder by Quita Borst followed, but then Alyssa Dronenburg delivered a runscoring single. Moments later, Dronenburg stole second base, followed by a throwing error that enabled Borst to score the second run. But hereafter, Menke closed the at bat with another strikeout.

DSS then took some more distance by scoring twice in the third inning. Morgan Sampson led off with a walk and Denice van Dijk singled. After moving on a sac-bunt by Kelly Koeman, singles by Eva Halman and Lorraine Kieft brought in the two runners.

The Haarlem-squad rallied for four runs in the fourth at bat to reach a 7-run difference. Melissa de Greef led off with a single and moved on a passed ball and wild pitch, then Annemiek de Rover was hit by a pitch. A runscoring single by Morgan Sampson followed, then, with one out, Kelly Koeman connected for a 2-run double. With two outs, Lorraine Kieft also singled in a run to make it 9-2.

In the top of the fifth, Krista Menke struckout the first two batters, then a grounder ended the game.

Game 2

In the second game, DSS stranded two runners in the first two innings. In the second at bat, Eva Halman doubled with one out and Anouk in den Kleef was hit by a pitch. The two advanced on a grounder by 14-year old Marijn Crouwel, who made her first start of the season, playing at second base. But the two runners were left behind.

Alcmaria Victrix then also got a chance of opening the score in the third inning. With one out, Lisanne Spoor reached on an error, then Katy Moore singled with two outs. But the inning ended when the lead runner was forced out on third base.

DSS then opened the score with three runs in the third at bat. Melissa de Greef led off with a triple, then scored when Annemiek de Rover followed with a single. The latter then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly Koeman. Next, DSS got runners on second and third base when a grounder by Denice van Dijk ended in an error. After Lorraine Kieft lined out, a force play was created by walking Eva Halman intentionally. But then two runs were added when Anouk in den Kleef followed with a 2-run single.

Like in the first game, Alcmaria was able to narrow the deficit to 3-2. In the fourth inning, Alyssa Dronenburg and Shantae Duren led off with back-to-back doubles to bring in the first run. With two outs, Duren scored the next run on a single by Evelien de Rover, but that was to be it for the Alkmaar-squad.

DSS answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Madelon Paauwe led off with a double, then, with one out, Annemiek de Rover was hit by a pitch (again). With two outs, Denice van Dijk (two runs), Lorraine Kieft and Eva Halman hit three consecutive runscoring doubles that lifted the lead to 7-2.

DSS reached the 7-run difference in the bottom of the sixth. Denice van Dijk and Lorraine Kieft led off with singles, then Eva Halman followed with another RBI-double. With one out, the ninth run was scored on a walk-off, RBI-single by Morgan Sampson.
