Terrasvogels & Tex Town Tigers split attractive double-header
Nederlands
ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - Tex Town Tigers and Terrasvogels played two attractive games in their double-header on Saturday (May 30).

The two teams split, each winning by an one-run margin and both games being decided by a homerun.

In the opener, Lindsey Meadows homered to tie the score in a 5-4 victory for Tex Town Tigers.

In Game 2, Lizzie Clarijs hit a 3-run homerun to give Terrasvogels the lead in a 7-6 win.

Between the two games, Tex Town Tigers honored player Nadine Marinus, who recently played in her 500th game for the main squad of the club. Since the club-records are being held by Jan van der Molen, she is only the third player in club-history to reach this mark. Earlier this season, Monique Mooi-ter Steege became the second player. They join Sonja Groeneveld-Benneker, who was the first to have reached the 500-games mark.

(May 30)

Game 1

A half hour before the game started, there was a heavy rain-shower. However, it was a brief shower and so, the game started on time. Just before the start of the third at bat, there was a 2-minute delay due to rain. This was the only interruption, as it stayed dry for the remainder of the day.

In the opener, Tex Town Tigers outhit Terrasvogels 11-6, but trailed 3-0 in the third inning.

In the top of the third inning, TTT-starter Cheyenne Scheffer walked Jessica Waasdorp and Myrthe Smid, who then advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, an error was made on a grounder by Ella Krommendijk, which led to the first run. Next, a throwing error followed on a force play-grounder by Marisèla de Wind, which loaded the bases. Moments later, Terrasvogels added two runs when Jessie van Aalst doubled. That led to a pitching change. Canadian Alana Westerhof took over and began with a strikeout. The inning ended when Anouk van den Heuvel lined out.

Tex Town Tigers had left a runner on second base in the first inning, then Alana Westerhof tripled with one out in the second inning. But she was eliminated in a double play after Aafje van Baal lined out to 2B Kimberly Jones.

In the bottom ot the third, TTT got one run back when Isa Los led off with a single and went on to score on a 2-out double by Shaneequa Kock.

After Terrasvogels left a runner on third base in the top of the fourth, the home team added another run in their fourth. With one out, Alana Westerhof (fielder's choice) scored on a 2-out triple by Isa Los.

In the fifth, Terrasvogels scored another run. With two outs, Jessie van Aalst scored on a single by Anouk van den Heuvel, but the team left two runners behind.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tex Town Tigers turned the game its way by scoring three runs. With two outs, Annemiek Jansen reached on a bunt-single and stole second base. Hereafter, Lindsey Meadows homered to tie the score at 4-4. When next batter Laura Wissink singled, it led to a pitching change. Anne-Bè Bartels took over, but gave up a single to Alana Westerhof. An error on a pop-fly by Aafje van Baal then led to another run and gave Tex Town Tigers a 5-4 lead, which also became the final score. It resulted in the first loss of the season for Ginger de Weert.

Game 2

In the second game, both teams were very productive in the first two innings, scoring a total of 10 runs. Terrasvogels then decided the game in the fourth inning with a 3-run homerun.

In the top of the first inning, Terrasvogels opened the score off of starter Romy van der Wielen, scoring two runs. Kimberly Jones led off with a walk and Ella Krommendijk singled. The two then respectively scored on a single by Marisèla de Wind and double by Jessie van Aalst. De Wind and Van Aalst then were left behind when three outs followed.

Tex Town Tigers reacted with three runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Anna-Bè Bartels. Nadine Marinus led off with a double and Shaneequa Kock singled. With one out, a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Meadows then accounted for the first run and TTT took a 3-2 lead when next batter Laura Wissink hit a line drive-homerun over the leftfield-fence. Hereafter, Alana Westerhof doubled, which led to a pitching change. Malou van Dusschoten took over and finished the inning with a strikeout.

In the top of the second inning, Terrasvogels scored twice to re-take the lead. With one out, Myrthe Smid doubled and moved on a passed ball, then Kimberly Jones walked. With runners on first and third base, Lindsey Meadows took over the pitching. After a grounder accounted for the second out, both runners scored on a single by Marisèla de Wind to give Terrasvogels a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, TTT again answered with three runs with two outs. Isa Los led off with a single and moved on a sac-bunt by Daniëlle ten Donkelaar. Nadine Marinus was then hit by a pitch and the two runners moved on a grounder. Next, Annemiek Jansen delivered a 2-run single down the leftfield-line, followed by an RBI-single by Lindsey Meadows to give TTT a 6-4 lead.

Terrasvogels left two runners in the third inning, but then scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead for the third time. First, Kimberly Jones and Ella Krommendijk (bunt) both reached on an error, then two outs followed. But then Lizzie Clarijs connected well and hit a 3-run homerun down the leftfield-line to make it 7-6 in favor of Terrasvogels.

After giving up the three runs in the second inning, Malou van Dusschoten recovered and threw five strong innings. The righthander struckout seven batters and gave up only two additional basehits. After the runscoring single by Lindsey Meadows in the second, she retired 16 of the next 18 batters in the remainder of the game. She was supported by some nice defensive plays. Centerfielder Marisèla de Wind made two fine catches in the fifth, then barely missed making a great diving catch on a hit by Daniëlle ten Donkelaar to close the inning. But hereafter, Van Dusschoten finished with a strikeout.

For Tex Town Tigers, centerfielder Isa Los made a very nice catch to end the top of the seventh.
