Talent Team & Terrasvogels unbeaten after Day 2 of Indoor Cup

On the second day of the 16th edition of the Indoor Softball Cup, the first games were played in the Championship Round of the annual event in Schiedam.
The tournament opened on Friday-evening with the first six games.
As always, the second day of the tournament is the busiest.
A total of 27 games were played today (Saturday, January 16) in the Margriet Hall and Groenoord Hall.
The 16 participating teams completed the preliminary round in the four groups with eight of them qualifying for the Championship Round, which started in the late afternoon.
Three teams remained unbeaten in the preliminary round, being Talent Team Holland Under22, Terrasvogels (both Netherlands) and Destroyers (USA).
The three teams were joined in the Championship Round by Euro Stars, Roef! (both Netherlands), Arsenal, Velocity (both USA) and Team France.
In the afternoon, a total of four games in the Championship Round (places 1 through 8) were played, as well as five games the Round for 9th through 16th place, to complete the second day of the event.
At the end of the day, Talent Team Holland, Terrasvogels and Destroyers were still unbeaten to become favorites for the all-deciding final to be played on Sunday.

Team Great Britain vs. Terrasvogels
Great Britain and Terrasvogels played their first game of the event on Saturday-morning in Pool C.
The game ended with a 4-1 lead for Terrasvogels, but its last two runs were scored in a non-completed inning and therefore didn't count in the final score, which was 2-1.
Terrasvogels, the lone clubteam participating from the Golden League, opened the score in the first at bat.
Dervisa Mutic led off with a walk, then Ella Krommendijk reached on an error, putting runners on the corners.
After the latter stole second base, Katharina Szalay also walked to load the bases.
Mutic then scored the first run when Jessie van Aalst followed with a single.
Terrasvogels doubled its lead in the next at bat.
This time, Sanne Korpel led off with a walk and scored on an one-out single by Ella Krommendijk.
Great Britain scored its lone run in the fourth inning via back-to-back doubles by Bobbi Scheurkogel and Amie Hutchison.
In the top of the fifth, Terrasvogels scored two more runs.
Rhowan Stuart and Jessica Waasdorp then led off with singles and scored on a grounder by Jeske Meewisse and an error.
But as the inning was not completed, they only count for the statistics and not for the final score.

Team France vs. Gryphons
In Pool D, France and Gryphons got into action for the first time on Saturday-morning.
The French squad shutout the Dutch team 10-0 and also collected 10 hits.
Gryphons registered only two basehits, which were hit by Kim Donkers and Maruja Isbouts.
France scored twice in the first inning, then rallied for six runs in the third at bat.
The rally began with a lead-off double by French National Team-player Raina Hunter, who has played for Alcmaria Victrix in the Dutch big league a few years ago.
There were six hits in the inning, while two runs were scored on a fielder's choice-grounder by Sandra Dymowiez.
In the bottom of the fourth, two runs were added on a 2-out, 2-run double by Aurélie Bacelon.

Birds vs. Arsenal United
On Saturday-morning, Arsenal United won its first game in Pool B, while Birds suffered its second one-run loss.
Arsenal scored its first run in the top of the second inning on a double by Cassie Hoagland with two outs.
Birds came alongside in the bottom of the third inning.
With one out, Dayenne Sluijter struckout, but reached on a wild pitch.
She then stole second base, advanced on an error and scored on another wild pitch to make it an 1-1 score.
Arsenal re-took the lead in the fourth at bat.
With the bases loaded, Ariel Linberger singled to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead, which also became the final score.

Joudrs Praha vs. Avengers
After opening on Friday-evening with a loss, Joudrs Praha won today and handed Avengers its second big loss.
The team lost 8-0 on Friday and now lost 8-1.
Joudrs collected 11 basehits, including three by National Team-player Veronika Klimplová.
The Czechs scored their first two runs in the first inning on singles by Julie Coufalová and Jana Furková.
Three runs were added in both the third and fourth inning.
In both innings, Joudrs got several baserunners and registed six basehits combined.
Veronika Klimplová batted in a run in both innings.
Winning pitcher Apolena Výborná struckout 11 batters and gave up only three hits.

Roef! vs. Talent Team Holland
The Talent Team Holland registered its second win in Pool A, while Roef! suffered its first loss after opening the event on Friday with a win.
The Talent Team won 11-2, but collected only more basehit more than Roef! (7-6), which committed four errors.
The Talent Team rallied for six runs in the first inning on only two hits, while three errors also contributed.
The bases got loaded when Brenda Beers reached on an error, Damishah Charles was hit by a pitch and Mariëlle Vleugels walked.
The three scored when Laura Wissink followed with a baseclearing triple and scored herself on an error.
Later in the at bat, Maxime van Dalen walked and Isa Los singled, then both scored on another error.
Two runs were added in the second inning on a single by Maxime van Dalen and a grounder by Ismay Poot.
Three more runs followed in the third at bat via two steal-situations and another error.
Roef! scored their two runs in the bottom of the third inning.
With one out, Eva van Knegsel singled and Naftely Pietersz walked, then both scored on a double by Nathalie Hosten.

Twins vs. Velocity United
This game in Pool B officially remained scoreless.
Velocity took an 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on back-to-back doubles by Kayla Matway and Cassidy Rowe, but that didn't count, as the playing time expired moments later.
With that, the score after four complete innings was the final score, which was 0-0.
Twins collected only two basehits in the game, hit by Lieke Duffhues and Kelly De Lannoy.
The team left a total of six baserunners.
It had runners on second and third base with two outs in the first at bat.
In the fourth, Kelly De Lannoy led off with a single and Michelle van Bodegom walked, but they also stranded.

Impact United vs. Terrasvogels
In its next game, Terrasvogels again registered a comfortable win, but ended up in the final score with a one-run difference.
Leading 4-3, Terrasvogels rallied for five runs in the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, there were two outs when the playing time expired, making it an incomplete inning.
With that, the score after four complete innings was the final score, 4-3.
As Euro Stars played at the same time in this pool and also won, both Terrasvogels and Euro Stars became the first two teams to secure a spot in the Championship Round.
Terrasvogels opened with a run in the first inning when Kimberly Jones reached on an error and scored on a basesloaded single by Sanne Korpel.
Impact came alongside in its first at bat on an error, but then Terrasvogels scored three runs in the second inning.
Jessica Waasdorp and Kimberly Jones singled and Lizzie Clarijs reached on a bunt-single and all went to score.
Impact narrowed the deficit by scoring twice in the bottom of the second, making it a 4-3 score.
Terrasvogels then rallied for five runs in the third at bat, highlighted by 2-run doubles by Sanne Korpel and Jeske Meewisse.

Euro Stars vs. Team Great Britain
Euro Stars also won its second game in Pool C, registering a 5-0 shutout-victory vs. Great Britain, which suffered its second loss.
As Terrasvogels played at the same time in this pool and also won, both Terrasvogels and Euro Stars became the first two teams to secure a spot in the Championship Round.
Euro Stars collected only two basehits, while the British squad had four.
Euro Stars rallied for three runs in the second inning.
Davinia de Kwant led off with a double, then the bases got loaded when Anna Prins and Kim van der Valk walked.
Hereafter, Olka Grzeszczak and Tanisha van Krevel also walked to bring in two runs.
A passed bal accounted for the third run.
Two runs were added in the fourth inning.
Eliza van 't Zelfde led off with a walk, then Amy Gielen struckout, but reached on a wild pitch.
The two advanced on a passed ball, then both scored when Kim van der Valk reached on an error.
Polish player Olka Grzeszczak pitched the first three innings for Euro Stars, then Romy van der Ham completed the 4-inning game.

Chaos United vs. Team France
Team France won its second game of the day in Pool D, winning 5-1 vs. Chaos, which also lost on Friday-evening.
The French team rallied for three runs in the first inning on five basehits.
With two outs, Raina Hunter singled, then scored on a double by Camille Riera, followed by a runscoring single by Carrie Pitcher, single by Manon Marie (who was 3-for-3) and an RBI-double by Anaisie Bugna.
Chaos got one run back in the second inning via a single by Michaela Geracia, but France added two more runs in the third.
With two outs and two runners on base, Aurélie Bacelon delivered a 2-run single.

Arsenal United vs. Twins
The American squad of Arsenal shutout Twins 3-0 to qualify for the Championship Round.
Arsenal scored its first run in the first at bat on a single by Nicole Ferraro, then added a run in the next at bat via an error.
The third run was scored in the fourth on a wild pitch.
Twins collected three basehits, including doubles by Femke Duffhues in the first ining and Lieke Duffhues in the third.
Noor Godefroy accounted for the third Twins-hit in the fourth inning.

Destroyers United vs. Gryphons
Destroyers shutout Gryphons 8-0 to register its second win in Pool D.
For Gryphons, this was its second shutout-loss, after losing 10-0 on Friday-evening.
With the result of this game, both Destroyers and Team France qualified for the Championship Round in this Pool.
Leading 1-0, Destroyers rallied for five runs in the second inning on three hits, including a runscoring double by Mollie Paulick.
Destroyers added more runs in the third and fifth inning to lift the lead to 8-0.
Gryphons collected three basehits.
In the second inning, Kim Donkers led off with a double, but stranded.
In the third, Charlotte Drijvers singled with one out and stole second base, but also was left behind.
And in the fourth, Annabel Foppele singled with two outs, stole second base, but also stranded.

Avengers United vs. Roef!
Roef! completed its preliminary round with a 5-2 win vs. Avengers, but had to wait for the result of the final game in this pool whether or not they would advance to the Championship Round.
Trailing 1-0, Roef! rallied for four runs in the second inning.
With two outs, Gini Ketelaars, Ilse van Kerkoerle and Wies Ligtvoet walked.
Hereafter, Britt Remmers reached on an error, resulting in two runs.
Singles by Nathalie Hosten and Charlotte Haen then brought in two more runs.
The fifth run was added in the top of the third inning, again with two outs.
Ilse van Kerkoerle then singled, moved on a bunt-single by Wies Ligtvoet, stole third base, then scored on an error.
A single by Amanda Chadwick gave Avengers its second run in the third, but that was to be all.

Velocity United vs. Birds
With a 7-3 win vs. Birds, Velocity United became the second team to qualify for the Championship Round in Pool B.
The Americans scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, including two on basesloaded walks for Mercedez McLeod and Makayla Stoner.
After adding another run in the third on a single by Dana Parker, Birds narrowed the deficit to 4-3 by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Anne Ketelaar and Laura Iannelli reached on an error, then runs were scored on a sacrifice bunt by Pascalle Toet and a grounder by Julie Winkel.
After Kitty van der Post walked, Keedy Florentina delivered a runscoring double to make it 4-3.
Velocity answered with three runs of its own.
The last came on a double by Kirsten McLeod with two outs and that also ended the game.

Terrasvogels vs. Euro Stars
Terrasvogels closed its preliminary round with a 2-0 win vs. Euro Stars.
Both teams already had secured a spot in the Championship Round in its previous game, but by winning, Terrasvogels finished in first place in this pool.
Terrasvogels scored both runs in the bottom of the third inning off of starting pitcher Shomayra Franka.
With one out, Lizzie Clarijs reached on an error, then Jessie van Aalst singled.
After the two advanced on a double-steal, then bases got loaded when Kimberly Jones received an intentional walk.
A following walk for Katharina Szalay then led to the first run.
After a force out at home, the next run was scored on a passed ball.
Jessie van Aalst went the distance for Terrasvogels making her comeback as a pitcher.
She struckout five batters and gave up only three basehits.
Euro Stars got an opportunity to open the score in the first inning.
Lead-off hitter Britt Amersfoort then reached on an error and Onaisha Franka followed with a single, but the two stranded on second and third base.
In the third inning, Amersfoort led off with a bunt-single and again was left behind on third base.
In the top of the fifth, Euro Stars got the bases loaded, but ran out of time to do something back.

Team Great Britain vs. Impact United
Pool C ended with a 7-0 win by Impact vs. Great Britain, but the last two runs were dropped, as they were scored in the top of an incomplete inning, making it a 5-0 final score officially.
The Americans rallied for three runs in the third inning on five basehits, including an RBI-single by Mary Gavriloff and RBI-double by Sierra Gilmore.
The latter added a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning, which does count for the personal statistics, but didn't count for the final score, due to the tournament-time rule.
The British squad collected only two basehits.

Talent Team Holland vs. Joudrs Praha
The Talent Team Holland ended the preliminary round with a 4-0 win vs. Joudrs Praha.
With this, the Talent Team remained unbeaten and qualified for the Championship.
With this result, Roef! also qualified, while Joudrs was eliminated.
The Talent Team opened with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Damishah Charles then doubled with one out, stole third base and scored on a passed ball.
The second run was scored by Annemiek Jansen, who walked, moved on a fielder's choice-grounder by Maxime van Dalen and scored when Shareday Christina reached on an error.
Two runs were added in the third inning.
Maxime van Dalen led off with a single and went on to score on following actions, while Jenny Kinburn singled and later scored the fourth run on a grounder by Tammie Lijbers.
Cheyenne Scheffers went the distance for the Talent Team Holland.
She struckout five batters and threw the first No-Hitter of the tournament.
Only one Czech batter reached base, which was due to an error in the first inning.

Team France vs. Destroyers United
Destroyers won 4-1 vs. Team France to remain unbeaten in Pool D, while the French suffered their first loss of the event.
Both teams already secured a spot in the Championship Pool earlier in the day.
The Americans opened the score in the first inning on an error, then added two runs in the third at bat.
That happened thanks to singles by Mollie Paulick and Lindsey Nunamaker.
Destroyers scored its fourth run in the fourth at bat when Nunamaker again delivered a runscoring single.
The French team scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Carrie Pitcher singled with one out and later scored on a fielder's choice.

Gryphons vs. Chaos United
In the final game of Pool D, Gryphons scored its first runs of the tournament, but were left empty-handed for the third time, losing 9-4 to Chaos.
Both teams already were eliminated for the Championship Round.
Chaos rallied for five runs in the top of the first inning, including one on a basesloaded walk for Amelia Manenti and two on a single by Michaela Geracia.
Gryphons answered with two runs in its first at bat.
With one out, Ellinor Keepers singled and Kim Donkers doubled, then scored on following singles by Maruja Isbouts and Manya Krijgsman.
Chaos then took more distance by scoring three runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI-double by Michaela Geracia, who was 3-for-3 and batted in three runs.
Gryphons scored another run in the second inning.
Charlotte Drijvers then led off with a single and later scored on a single by Ellinor Keepers.
Trailing 9-3, Gryphons scored its fourth run in the bottom of the third.
Jasmijn Besselink then led off with a double and scored on an one-out double by Linda van Dijk.

Birds vs. Chaos United
Pool Z, one of the two pools that will result in the ranking for 9th through 16th place, opened with a 6-0 win for Birds vs. Chaos.
For Birds, this was its first win of the tournament after staying winless in Pool B.
Birds, which last season promoted to the Silver League, opened the score with one run in the first at bat.
With one out, Lisa Hop reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a double by Celine Janssens.
Two runs were added in the second inning.
Laura Iannelli then reached on a bunt-single, stole second base and scored on a double by Kelsey Huijzers.
The latter went on to score on a 2-out single by Lisa Hop.
Birds then rallied for three runs in the fourth at bat.
With two outs, the bases got loaded when Kelsey Huijzers, Celine Janssens and Julie Winkel all walked.
They all scored on a baseclearing, 3-run single by Julia van Egmond.

Gryphons vs. Joudrs Praha
Pool Y, the other pool for the 9th through 16th place, began with a 7-3 win for Joudrs Praha vs. Gryphons.
Initially, Gryphons took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Charlotte Drijvers, Kim Donkers and Maruja Isbouts led off with a walk.
With one out, a fielder's choice-grounder by Jasmijn Besselink accounted for the first run, then Ellinor Keepers and Lieke Kapteijns followed with runscoring singles.
However, the Rosmalen-team was unable to hold onto the lead, as the Czech opponent rallied for five runs in the top of the third inning.
Stepanka Kostinová, Apolena Výborná and Katerina Klimplová all singled to load the bases.
With one out, a run was scored when Jana Furková walked.
More runs were then added on fielder's choice-grounders by Adela Simunková and Adela Linková and a grounder by Kostinová.
Joudrs added two more runs in the fourth inning to lift the lead to 7-3.

Destroyers United vs. Arsenal United
Destroyers and Arsenal opened Pool X with a 2-2 tie.
Pool X is one of the two groups in the Championship Round.
Destroyers opened with a run in the first inning on an error.
More details are not availlable of this game.

Talent Team Holland vs. Euro Stars
Talent Team Holland opened Group W in the Championship Pool with a 7-1 win vs. Euro Stars to remain unbeaten.
It was Euro Stars that opened the score in the top of the first inning.
Britt Amersfoort led off with a single, moved on a single by Onaisha Franka and scored on a bunt-single by Davinia de Kwant with one out.
It was to be their first run in this game.
The Talent Team came alongside in the second inning when Laura Wissink reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a single by Jenny Kinburn.
The Talent Team then broke the 1-1 tie by scoring two runs in the third at bat.
The bases got loaded when Brenda Beers doubled, Annemiek Jansen was hit by a pitch and Mariëlle Vleugels singled.
After a line out and force out at home, Jenny Kinburn and Damishah Charles delivered runscoring singles.
A 4-run rally followed in the fourth inning, thanks to singles by Shareday Christina, Jenny Kinburn and Ismay Poot, plus a fielder's choice.
The Talent Team outhit Euro Stars 9-7, including three hits by Jenny Kinburn and two by Brenda Beers.
Britt Amersfoort and Amy Gielen both had two hits for Euro Stars.

Terrasvogels vs. Roef!
In this game in Pool X, Terrasvogels and Roef! played a scoreless tie.
Earlier, the first game in this pool between Destroyers and Arsenal also ended in a tie.
Terrasvogels outhit Roef!, 4-3 in the pitching-duel between Malou van Dusschoten (Terrasvogels) and Marjolein Merkx (Roef!).
Van Dusschoten struckout 10 batters, Merkx struckout six.
Roef! got into scoring position in the top of the first inning when Wies Ligtvoet led off with a walk, stole second base and moved on a wild pitch.
But she stranded on third base, as Malou van Dusschoten followed with three strikeouts.
In the second inning, Roef! got the bases loaded with two outs.
Shauni Thys then walked, Ilse van Kerkoerle doubled and Wies Ligtvoet walked.
Van Dusschoten again avoided giving up runs, closing with another strikeout.
For Terrasvogels, Rhowan Stuart reached on an error with one out in the second inning, then Katharina Szalay singled, but they were left at second and third base.
In the third, Jessie van Aalst doubled with two outs, then her pinch-runner Dervisa Mutic was caught stealing at third base.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Roef! got the bases loaded again, but this time a force out ended the at bat.

Velocity United vs. Team France
In Pool W, Velocity and France also played a scoreless tie officially in this quick-paced game.
France took an 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but ran out of time.
Both teams collected only two basehits.
In the top of the seventh, Laurence Cornaille walked with one out and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Sandra Dymowiez.
Hereafter, Pauline Prade walked.
The two runners then executed a double-steal, which was followed by an error, resulting in a run.
But then, the time expired, ending the game.

Twins vs. Team Great Britain
In Pool Y, Great Britain won its first game, nipping Twins 1-0.
The lone run was scored in the third inning.
With one out, Sian Wigington reached on an error, then Lauren Futcher walked.
The bases got loaded when an error was made on a sacrifice bunt by Bobbi Scheurkogel.
A single by Esmee Toet then brought in the run, but the British squad also left three runners behind.
The single was the lone hit by Great Britain off of Sheila van der Tang, who threw a fine game and struckout five batters.
Twins collected three hits, but left six runners behind.
Three runners were left in the second inning.
Michelle van Bodegom led off with a walk, then Imane Allou Issa singled with two outs, followed by a walk for Femke Duffhues.
The inning ended when reliever Amie Hutchison closed with a strikeout.

Impact United vs. Chaos United
Impact shutout Chaos 4-0 in Pool Z, which consist of three American teams.
Impact opened with one run in the second inning on a double by Anita Bates, but also left the bases loaded.
A 3-run rally followed in the fourth inning.
With one out, a passed ball and runscoring singles by Cassidy Stroia and Mikala Swearingin lifted the lead to 4-0.

Avengers United vs. Birds
Also in Pool Z, Avengers won 5-0 vs. Birds, but was outhit 6-4.
The American squad scored a run in the first and second inning to take an early lead.
In the first, a run was scored on a wild pitch and in the second on a passed ball.
Avengers then added three runs in the third.
In this inning, an error accounted for the first run, then a run was added on a double by Olivia Graff, who later scored herself on a wild pitch.
Birds collected six hits, including two by Laura Iannelli, but left five runners behind.
In the fourth, trailing 5-0, Laura Iannelli (with one out) and Julie Winkel (with two outs) singled, but stranded.
In the fifth, Lisa Hop reached on an error, moved to third base on a single by Laura Iannelli, but was unable to score on a double play-grounder.
