AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates has announced its transfers for the upcoming season. This year, the club was dethroned as Dutch champion, as it was eliminated in the Play-Offs by Corendon Kinheim, which went on to capture the title.

After completion of the season, it was already announced that Head Coach Charles Urbanus had stepped down. A few days later, Sidney de Jong, who retired as player, was named new Head Coach and will be assisted by Percy Isenia and Rob Cordemans, who both will combine coaching with playing.

In the newest developments, Amsterdam has expended its coaching staff with Ronald Jaarsma, a former player of Mr. Cocker HCAW (and briefly Neptunus) and the Dutch National Team. In 2009-2011, Jaarsma acted as 3B Coach for HCAW and also was interim Head Coach in the last 21 games of the 2011 season. In the new season, Jaarsma will be the 3B Coach of Pirates. There, he will replace longtime 3B Coach Randell Hannah, who momentarily stepped down due to private reasons. Hannah was the team's 3B Coach since 2006, after already having been a member of the coaching staff in 1993 and 1994.

Al Morales Gomes, who was the Pitching Coach of the team, also will not be back. He plans to continue his pitching career, but it is not known yet wher. Cordemans will be the team's new Pitching Coach.

Earlier this week, Vaessen Pioniers already announced that short stop Michael Duursma will play for Amsterdam Pirates next season. Amsterdam has now confirmed that transfer, as well as the move of its own short stop Vince Rooi to Pioniers.

Also joining Amsterdam are righthanded pitcher Kevin Heijstek and lefthanded pitcher Kyle Ward, meaning the team team has added three national team-players to its roster.

Starting pitcher Kevin Heijstek (he started 13 games) was 8-3 this season for DOOR Neptunus and struckout 64 batters in 84 1/3 inning. Heijstek walked 20, have up 66 basehits and finished with an 1.71 ERA. In the Play-Offs, Heijstek started three games and was 1-1.

Kyle Ward was used as starter and reliever this season by UVV. The lefthander started six games and appeared five times in relief. Ward closed the regular season with a 5-2 record and 3.94 ERA, while striking out 41 batters and walking 15 in 45 2/3 inning. In the Play-Downs, Ward was 1-0.

During this years Haarlem Baseball Week, Ward made his debut in the Dutch National Team. Heijstek and Ward both were not on the Dutch roster for the European Championship.

Also added to the roster was Daan Hendrix, who made his big league-debut this season, appearing in two games in relief for Pirates, throwing five innings.

Besides Rooi, who wil play for Pioniers next season, righthander Frank van Heijst and lefthander Rik Geestman will not be with the team in the new season.

Geestman will play for DSS in the second highest division next year. This season, Geestman pitched 17 games in relief and started one. He was 2-0 and struckout 15 batters in 27 innings. In the Play-Offs, Geestman was 0-1.

Righthander Van Heijst missed the entire season due to an arm injury and therefore will play on a lower level within the Pirates-organisation next year.
