Didi Gregorius hits first basehit in a Yankee-uniform
Nederlands
CLEARWATER, Florida (USA) -
Didi Gregorius has registered his first basehit as a player of the New York Yankees.
And it was a double and he batted a run in with it.
The Amsterdam-born (Netherlands) Gregorius played his first game in a Yankee-uniform last Tuesday in a 5-5 tie against the Philadelphia Phillies.
In that game, Gregorius was the short stop in the first five innings and he went 0-for-1 with a walk.
On Friday, Gregorius again was the starting short stop in another game vs. Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, which was won, 4-1.
In this game, Didi accounted for his first basehit as a Yankee.
In the fourth inning, Greg Bird batted in the first run for the Yankees with a double, then Ramon Flores singled in the next run.
Hereafter, Gregorius connected for an RBI-double that brought in Aaron Judge, giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
Gregorius was replaced in the bottom of the fifth inning and was 1-for-3.
On Saturday, Didi was 0-for-3 and played five innings in a 9-4 victory vs. Houston Astros.
Gregorius was the lead-off hitter in all three games he played so far.
On December 5 last year, the 24-year old Gregorius was traded to the Yankees, coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade, wich also included the Detroit Tigers.
At the Yankees, Gregorius is to be the successor of Derek Jeter, who last season retired after having played 20 years for the Yankees.
Gregorius made his Major League-debut in 2012, playing for the Cincinnati Reds.
He then played for the Diamondbacks in 2013 and 2014.
On Sunday, Gregorius didn't play for the Yankees in the game against the Washington Nationals, for whom Spencer Kieboom, another player with a Dutch passport, had a pinch-hit appearance.
Also on Sunday, there was an unusual No-Hitter, as nine (!) pitchers gave up no basehits for the Atlanta Braves against the Houston Astros in a 2-2 tie.
