UVV shuts outs DSS in the rain
Nederlands
VLEUTEN (Neth.) - UVV shutout DSS 6-0 in a rain-shortened game on Saturday (April 11) at home in Vleuten. UVV outhit DSS 6-1 in the game, which was halted after 4½ inning due to the rain.

The teams will close the exhibition against each other on Sunday in Haarlem.

The game wasn't the only one to be bothered by rain. At Bussum, the game between HCAW and Vaessen Pioniers also was stopped early. As was the second game of the Loek Loevendie Tournament in Amsterdam between L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus. Earlier in the day, Neptunus played a 9-inning game vs. Corendon Kinheim.

Complete Schedule Exhibition Season

Despite hitting only one basehit, DSS was close to opening the score in the first inning, as it got the bases loaded with two outs off of Jurjen van Zijl. With out, Sven Jongejans doubled (which was to be the lone DSS-hit), then Ryan Miner was hit by a pitch with two outs. The bases got loaded when Tino van Erk was awarded first base on catcher's interference. But DSS then left the bases loaded when a pop-fly ended the inning.

In the second inning, Joffrey Heus led off with a walk, but would strand on second base. After the walk, Van Zijl retired eight batters in a row.

DSS got another scoring opportunity in the fifth when Sven Jongejans UVV opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. DSS-pitcher Rik Geestman hit lead-off hitter Norbert Jongerius with a pitch and he then reached third base on a throwing error during a steal-attempt. With one out, Gilmer Lampe walked and this time a failed pick-off at first base led to an error and a run. Lampe ended up on third base, then scored when Mike Bazuin singled with two outs. The latter then stranded on second base.

One run was added in the second inning. Dennis Ribbens led off with a single and moved on a double by Sam van Dijck. After the bases got loaded when Jamie Verheyleweghen walked, Geestman also walked Jongerius to bring in a run. But then Tony Enos lined into a double play and a flyout ended the inning.

After being retired in order in the third, UVV added three runs in the fourth. Ribbens led off with a single, stole second base, then moved to third on a bunt-single by Verheyleweghen. After the latter stole second base, an error followed, leading to a run. Jongerius then walked and a double-steal followed. A grounder by Enos and single by Lampe then lifted the lead to 6-0.
