UVV turns exhibition game vs. HCAW around in 9th inning
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) -
At Bussum, HCAW and UVV played a game which was very similar like yesterday's match-up.
On Saturday, HCAW led, trailed, but won in the eighth inning.
Today, UVV led 3-1 after six innings, then trailed in the seventh at bat.
UVV re-took the lead in the eighth, faced a deficit again after the home of the ninth, but then scored twice to win 7-6.
As the score switched teams frequently, four pitchers were credited with a Blown Save.
Coming weekend, HCAW initially was to play two games vs. Mainz Athletics from Germany, but that team cannot come to Bussum.
Instead, HCAW will have a practice session on Saturday, then meets DSS on Sunday, starting at 12 PM.
UVV will play two games against Curaçao Neptunus.

In today's game, which was played on the site of HCAW in Bussum, Uvv led quickly, scoring three runs in the first two innings off of starter Sander Helmendach.
In the first at bat, Norbert Jongerius and Gilmer Lampe both walked, then a failed pick-off brough the lead runner to third base.
Moments later, Jongerius scored in a double-steal-situation which brought Lampe to second base, but was left behind.
Two runs were added in the second inning.
Dennis Ribbens led off with a double, moved on a wild pitch and scored when next batter Sam van Dijck also double.
The latter then advanced when Joris van Ballegooy reached on an error, then scored on a grounder by Brennan Nijhof to make it 3-0 in UVV's favor.
Jim Ploeger started for UVV and threw five strong innings.
He struckout 10 batters, walked two and gave up only three basehits.
With two outs in the first inning, Ploeger gave up a single to Roy Seltenrijch and walked Rossini Frolijk, but then closed with a strikeout.
In the fourth, HCAW left a runner on first base, then got another baserunner on the fifth.
With two outs, Rikkert Kempen singled and moved on a wild pitch, but then was picked off by Ploeger, ending the inning.
Gijs van Els took over the pitching for HCAW in the fourth and threw two scoreless innings.
Things started to change from the sixth inning on, resulting in 10 runs combined by both teams.
Rookie Mees Cremer relieved Ploeger in the sixth inning and ran into problems.
He walked lead-off hitter Emersson Paula, then gave up a single to Peter van Doesburg.
After striking out the next batter, the bases got loaded when Rossini Frolijk also walked.
HCAW then scored its first run on a sacrifice fly by Jarreau Martina, but also left the bases loaded.

In the seventh inning, HCAW scored three runs off of Cremer to take a 4-3 lead.
Brian Biezen singled and Jim Froberg walked, then executed a double steal.
Next, Biezen scored when an error was made on an one-out grounder by Peter van Doesburg and Froberg accounted for the tying run by crossing home plate after a single by Roy Seltenrijch.
HCAW then took a 4-3 lead on a sacrifice fly by Rossini Frolijk.
Tony Kreisel had taken over Van Els in the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings.
He was then became the pitcher-of-record when HCAW took the lead in the top of the seventh, but then the HCAW-bullpen failed to hold the lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, HCAW got runners on second and third base with one out, but was unable to add more runs.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, UVV scored two runs off of new pitcher Steven van Groningen to take a 5-4 lead.
Norbert Jongerius led off with a single and Gilmer Lampe walked.
The first was then caught stealing, but then the bases got loaded when Mike Bazuin reached on an error and Sergino Martis walked.
Next, two runs were scored when Dennis Ribbens singled.
But UVV then left two runners behind when Van Groningen ended the inning with two strikeouts.
This lead also was shortlived, as HCAW scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning off of new pitcher Joris van Ballegooy.
Lead-off hitter Peter van Doesburg was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch, moved to third base on a flyout and scored the tying run when Rossini Frolijk doubled.
Frolijk then moved on a grounder and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Jazon Allee.
The latter stole second base and was waved home trying to score on a single by Rowan van Hoek, but was eliminated at the plate after a throw from centerfielder Gilmer Lampe.
Now trailing 6-5, it was UVV's turn to come back, to score twice and to turn the game its way.
Bob Klaarenbeek became the new pitcher for HCAW and he began with a strikeout.
Next, Rick Kuipers reached on an infield-hit, but another strikeout followed.
Hereafter, Norbert Jongerius walked.
The game then ended moments later and might be contributed to the weather.
The game, which was about to start at 3 PM, began 20 minutes later due to another game on the field.
And now, with runners on first and second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, it was some three hours later.
To be exactly, it was 6:23 PM when Gilmer Lampe hit the ball into the outfield.
As the artificial lights were not turned on during the game, the sun was starting to set.
With the lights turned out, rookie centerfielder Boyd Tuhumeru might have caught the ball.
But now, he might have lost the ball in the sunsetting sky and went on to drop the ball, resulting in two runs and a 7-6 win for UVV.
