Strong first outing Kenley Jansen in Major League Spring Training

FORT MYERS / WEST PALM BEACH, Florida / PHOENIX / SURPRISE, Arizona (USA) - On Monday (March 1), fourteen more games were played in Major League SpringTraining. Like on Sunday, there were seven in Florida and seven in Arizona.

On the second day of the Spring Training-season, Ozzie Albies, Carter Kieboom and Kenley Jansen all played in their first game. Jansen had a strong outing on the mound for Los Angeles Dodgers. Albies scored twice for Atlanta Braves and Kieboom singled and tripled for Washington Nationals.

Sherten Apostel played in his second game for Texas Rangers.

At FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Washington Nationals played at home against Houston Astros and lost 7-6.

Carter Kieboom was the starting third baseman for Washington and batted 2-for-3. He batted fifth in the batting order of Manager Dave Martinez and led off the second inning with a single. Moments later, he was eliminated when next batter Drew Mendoza grounded into a double play.

With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Washington opened the score when three consecutive homeruns were hit! Josh Harrison, Ryan Zimmerman and Yadiel Hernández all connected well off of reliever Steve Cishek. Kieboom was the next batter, but he grounded out.

In the top of the fourth, Steven Souza, Jr. hit a 2-run homerun for Houston. Washington scored another run in its fourth at bat on a single by Harrison, but also left three runners behind.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Kieboom hit a triple, but stranded on third base, as the next two batters struckout. Kieboom was then replaced by Adrian Sanchez in the top of the sixth.

Washington led 6-2 when the ninth inning began, but Houston then rallied for five runs to turn the game around.



At jetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers, Atlanta Braves visited Boston Red Sox and won 5-3.

Ozzie Albies was the second batter for Atlanta and the starting second baseman. He was 0-for-2, but scored two runs.

In the top of the first inning, off of Boston-starter Garrett Richards, Ronald Acuña led off for Atlanta with a double, then Albies walked. Jake Lamb followed with an RBI-single in this inning in which some situations were created. With one out, the bases got loaded when Phillip Ervin also singled. Albies then scored when William Contreras walked.

With one out in the third inning, off of reliever Kyle Hart, Albies reached second base on an error. With two outs and the bases loaded (two walks), Albies and John Camargo (who had walked) both scored on a single by Contreras.

In the fifth inning, Albies led off, but then struckout. He left the game in the bottom of the fifth, as Sean Kazmar took over at second base.



At Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix, Los Angeles Dodgers played at home and shutout Colorado Rockies in a 6-inning game. Los Angeles collected 14 hits, Colorado got only two.

With Los Angeles leading 3-0, Kenley Jansen pitched the fourth inning and had a strong first outing. The righthander threw nine pitches, which were all strikes. Jansen struckout Josh Fuentes and Greg Bird. He then got an 0-2 count on Elias Diaz, who grounded the next pitch to first baseman Max Muncy. Jansen took over first base to complete the out.

Los Angeles opened the score in the second inning via a 2-run homerun by DJ Peters. The team added a run in the third, then rallied for six more runs in the fourth to take a commanding lead.



At Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Texas Rangers played at home against San Francisco Giants. They played a 6-inning game, which ended with an 1-1 score.

In the top of the fifth inning, with Texas leading 1-0, Sherten Apostel entered the game. He replaced Nate Lowe to become the new first baseman for Texas. Apostel also played in the opener of Texas on Sunday.

In the bottom of the fifth, with one out, Apostel got his lone at bat, but he was struckout by reliever Kevin Castro.

Texas scored its run in the third inning on a wild pitch. San Francisco came alongside in the sixth on a double by Jason Krizan.
