QUEENS, NEW YORK CITY, New York / SACRAMENTO, California (USA) -
Aruba-born catcher Chadwick Tromp is back again in Triple-A, a day after being recalled to the Major League-team of San Francisco Giants.
On Thursday, the 26-year old player was recalled to the Major League-team, but the next day (August 27), Tromp was optioned to Sacramento Rivers Cats, the Triple-A team of the club.
Tromp was recalled on Thursday to give the team more possibilities for the catcher's position after regular catcher Buster Posey got injured and left the game last Tuesday.
Since then, Posey was day-to-day.
In his place, back-up catcher Curt Casali did the catching for San Francisco.
On Thursday, it was decided to fly Tromp from Sacramento to New York for the final game of the 3-game series against New York Mets.
He arrived in time in New York after a more than 5-hour flight and was in uniform with the team when the game began.
In the eighth inning, Tromp entered the game as pinch-runner for Casali, who left after he had hit a foul ball off hit foot during his at bat.
Tromp then was the catcher in the eighth inning and flied out in his lone at bat.
However, on Friday, it was announced that Posey was back in good health.
And as the team didn't need a third catcher now that Posey was able to play again, Tromp was optioned to Triple-A.
And so, he made another more than 5-hour flight back from New York to Californoa.
It was the fourth time this season that Tromp had been added to the Major League-team.
When he was recalled on Thursday, Tromp was scheduled to begin a new 6-game series with Sacramento River Cats in Reno, Nevada against Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks).
However, the opener of Sacramento in Reno on Thursday was postponed due to ongoing and pervasive air quality concerns in the area due to nearby wildfires
As a result, it was announced that the games scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been relocated to Sacramento.
On Friday, Sacramento won 7-5.
Saturday's game in Sacramento was then also postponed due to the air quality as a result of wildfires in California.
