HAARLEM (Neth.) -
DSS/Kinheim expanded its coaching-staff for the 2023 season with Shurty Tremus, who played in ten big league-seasons for five different teams.
This year, Tremus played in the First Division for Euro Stars.
The former infielder will become an Assistant Coach in the staff of new Head Coach Etienne Meijer, who was announced as the successor of Michael Crouwel on October 27.
On Saturday, the Haarlem-club announced that René Rijst will be the new Pitching Coach.

In the past week, DSS/Kinheim announced the additions of four new players.
On Sunday, the club announced that young infielder Amarensio Franka, who comes from Neptunus Tridents, was added to the roster.
On Monday, DSS/Kinheim announced that righthanded pitcher and former pro Donny Breek, who played for L&D Amsterdam Pirates, also comes to the Haarlem-team.
On Tuesday, it was announced that outfielder Urving Kemp has transfered from Twins Oosterhout to DSS/Kinheim.
And on Wednesday, the club confirmed that infielder Jesse van den Berg was added from Sparks Haarlem.
DSS/Kinheim also announced that outfielder Julian Toppen and pitcher Finn Blokker are promoted to the main-squad from the second team.
The transfer-period ends on November 15.
The lefthanded hitting Shurty Tremus made his debut in the Dutch league in 2005 when he played for ADO, which then played under the name Tornado's.
In his first big league-season, Tremus played in 32 games as middle-infielder and batted .184.
After having played a full season for ADO in 2006 (hitting .218), Tremus transfered to HCAW.
The infielder played in two seasons for the Bussum-club.
In his first season with HCAW, he recorded a career-high 36 basehits, which he equaled two years later.
In his second year in Bussum, Tremus scored a career-high 19 runs.
After the 2008 season, Tremus went back to ADO for whom he then played in 2009 and again collected 36 basehits, including his first big league-homerun.
Another transfer followed thereafter, as the infielder played for Hoofddorp Pioniers in the 2010 season.
Next, Tremus played in two big league-seasons for UVV.
In his first season with UVV (2011), Tremus finished with a career-high .288 batting average and three homeruns.
That was the third-highest in the team behind Fausto Álvarez Rizo (.336) and Danny Rombley (.304), who this year made his big league-debut as Head Coach with HCAW and led the team to the Championship-title.
After the 2012 season, Tremus opted to play for Twins Oosterhout, which then played in the second highest league.
In his first season with Twins, the team qualified for the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off against ADO, but lost the best-of-five, 3-2.
Tremus batted 3-for-15 (.200) in these five games.
Twins was more successful in 2015.
The team again reached the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off and this time, Twins swept Mampaey the Hawks in three games to promote to the big league.
Tremus was 2-for-11 (.182) in these three games.
And so, Tremus made his comeback in the big league in 2016, which was his final full season at the highest level.
In 37 games, Tremus batted .186.
After the season ended, Tremus became a member of the coaching-staff of Head Coach Kevin Roovers.
In the 2017 season, he was the 3B Coach and Hitting Coach of Twins and took part in two more games.
After the season, Tremus stepped down as coach.
Tremus has always been a middle-infielder, but he regularly shifted from second base and short stop back and forth.
In his first two seasons, he mostly played as short stop.
In the next two seasons (2007-2008), Tremus was the second baseman when he played for HCAW.
Thereafter, in following seasons, he returned to his short stop-postion.
Although he left Twins Oosterhout after the 2017 season, Tremus returned to the baseball-field not long thereafter.
He went on to play in the second-highest league for Euro Stars for whom he also played this year.
The team finished in fifth place of the First Division with a 17-14 record and one tie.
In 2019, Shurty Tremus founded the Future Star Baseball Academy.
There, he coordinates weekly practice sessions, baseball clinics and internships, which are conducted by several coaches.
Besides that, the Academy also compiles Travelteams in different age-groups who participate in (international) tournaments.
