Virginie Anneveld turns pro; signed by Rebellion

Dutch National Team-infielder Virginie Anneveld will play professional softball this year.
The experienced player, who plays at third base, has signed with the Pennsylvania Rebellion, the club announced on February 4.
With this, she becomes the first Dutch softball-player to play professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch, the highest reachable professional league.

In January, the club named Craig Montvidas as its Head Coach, while a few days later, Karen Marr was named Pitching Coach.
Montvidas was the Head Coach of the Netherlands National Softball Team since November 2008, while Marr was with the Orange squad since December 2010.
In December 2008, Virginie Anneveld was selected for the first time for the Dutch National Team by Montvidas and has played for the team ever since.
In her six seasons with the Orange squad, she won three European Championship-titles, with the team remaining unbeaten in 2009, 2011 and 2013.
She also participated in three World Championships (2010, 2012, 2014).
During the global events, the Dutch Team climbed on the ranking list from twelfth to a tie for fifth place, which was accomplished last year in front of a home crowd in Haarlem (Netherlands).
In total, Virginie Anneveld played in 75 official international games for the Dutch Team, with whom she also participated in the Canada Cup (2000) and World Cup of Softball (Oklahoma City, 2009, 2012).
Last year, she was the Dutch Team's leading hitter during the World Championship.
In 2005, Virginie made her debut in the Dutch Major League, playing for Tex Town Tigers, with whom she won the Dutch championship title twice.
Since 2011, she plays for Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem, winning the Dutch title in 2011 and last year.
In 2009, she is awarded the Egbert van der Sluis Memorial Trophy for Best International Player under 23.
In 2012, Virginie is the Batting Champion of the Dutch Major League.
Internationally, she is named to the All Star Team of the 2009 Canada Cup and is named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 European Championship.
In December last year, Virginie was in Japan for three weeks, participating in a series of practices with a Japanese squad.
