HAMBURG (Germany) - The softball-team of FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem has won the International Women's Fastpitch Indoor Softball Tournament, which was held in Hamburg (Germany) on February 28-March 1.

In the final of the event, Olympia Haarlem defeated the National Team of Germany with a 3-0 score.

In the two-day event in Hamburg, four teams participated. Besides the two mentioned finalists, the other two were host Hamburg Knights and Storms Prague from the Czech Republic, who both play in the highest league of their respective country.

On the first day of the tournament, Olympia Haarlem won all of its three games in the preliminary round. The team won 5-0 vs. Hamburg, 10-2 vs. Prague and 2-0 against the German national team.

On Day 2, the German squad (which finished in second place in the preliminary) reached the final by winning 6-0 vs. Hamburg in the first semi-final. Olympia Haarlem then became the second finalist by winning 5-2 vs. Storms Prague.

This season, Olympia Haarlem will be coached by New Zealander Stanley Doney in the Golden League. Doney is the successor of American Caroline Powell, who had led the team in the last five seasons.

Shortly after he was named as new Head Coach of Olympia Haarlem in November last year, Grand Slam & Stats & News had an interview with Stanley Doney.
He then said: ,,At Olympia, we want to look out to the future, built something. I hope to make Olympia and Dutch softball better. To make European softball better. I'm looking forward to the season. Olympia will be a new challenge for me.''
