Game 1: Granma vs. Matanzas
In the opening game, both teams scored a run in the first inning.
In the top of the first inning, Yadil Mujica Díaz homered for Matanzas with one out off of starting pitcher Lázaro Blanco Matos.
The lead was shortlived, as Granma came alongside in the bottom of the first off of Yoanni Yera Montalvo, who went the distance for Matanzas.
Roel Santos Martínez led off with a single, stole second base and moved to third base on a grounder by Osvaldo Abreu Sánchez.
He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Raico Santos Almeida.
Granma left a runner behind on third base in the third at bat.
Yulián Rafael Milán Santos then led off with a single and moved on a sacrifice bunt and a grounder, but a stikeout ended the at bat.
Granma got into scoring position again in the fourth.
This time, Raico Santos Almeida led off with a single.
Carlos Benítez Pérez then drove the ball into deep centerfield, but it was caught.
Moments later, Santos stole second base, but stranded when the next two batters struckout.
But Granma was more successful in the bottom of the fifth.
The first two batters struckout, then Alexquemer Sánchez Sánchez doubled.
Hereafter, Roel Santos Martínez walked and both scored when next batter Osvaldo Abreu Sánchez hit a triple.
Matanzas was retired in order in the second through fourth inning.
After having retired 13 consecutive batters, Blanco walked Willian Luis Campillo with one out in the fifth.
Next batter Andrys Pérez Garcia then hit a line drive into rightfield for a single.
Luis tried to advance to third base, didn't make a sliding and was tagged out by third baseman Osvaldo Abreu Sánchez after a nice throw from rightfielder Alexquemer Sánchez Sáchez.
Matanzas narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the sixth when Aníbal Medina Pérez homered with one out.
But that was to be it what the runs were concerned in this game.
Matanzas got only one more baserunner when pinch-hitter Javier Camero Rodríguez singled with one out in the eighth.
But his pinch-runner stranded on first base.
After having scored twice in the sixth, Granma was retired in order in the remainder of the game, which lasted only two hours and nine minutes.
It was clearly a pitching-duel between Yoanni Yera Montalvo and Lázaro Blanco Matos.
Lefthander Yera went the distance for Matanzas and gave up five basehits, while striking out eleven batters.
However, he ended up shorthanded, as one of the hits he gave up was a deciding 2-run triple.
Righthander Blanco struckout three batters and gave up only four basehits in eight innings.
Carlos Santana Santiesteban closed the game in the ninth.
He retired the side and closed the game with a strikeout.
