...Didi Gregorius hits a grand slam homerun in the 3rd inning...
At BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Didi Gregorius started as short stop for Philadelphia Phillies and hit a grand slam homerun in a 9-3 victory at home in an 8½ inning game against Detroit Tigers. Before today's game, Gregorius batted only .071 (1-for-14) in the five games he had played.

Philadelphia opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starting pitcher Casey Mize. Andrew McCutchen led off with a walk, then scored on an one-out homerun by Bryce Harper. Hereafter, Gregorius got his first at bat, but grounded out. In the top of the second inning, Gregorius started an inning-ending double play.

Philadelphia then took more distance in the third inning, thanks to Gregorius. McCutchen led off with a double, then the bases got loaded when Rhys Hoskins and Harper both walked. That brought up Gregorius, who then made good contact on an 1-1 pitch from Mize and drilled the ball into deep rightfield for a grand slam homerun!

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Phillies scored three more runs off of reliever Joe Jiménez. This time, Harper opened with a double and moved to third base on a wild pitch. Hereafter, Gregorius walked. Moments later, both Harper and Gregorius advanced on another wild pitch, meaning another run was scored. Next batter Jean Segura reached on an throwing error, which enabled Gregorius to move to third base and the bases got loaded when Ronald Torreyes was hit by a pitch. Gregorius then scored when Andrew Knapp grounded into a double play. Segura, who moved to third base on this play, scored the third run in this inning when a walk for Roman Quinn ended in a wild pitch. That was the third wild pitch in this inning by Jiménez, who was then replaced by Alex Lange. He closed the inning with a strikeout, but Philadelphia now led 9-0.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gregorius was replaced by pinch-hitter Luis Garcia, who also took over as short stop in the seventh inning.

Detroit got three runs back in the top of the seventh on a 2-run homerun by Akil Baddoo and an RBI-double by Willi Castro.

At jetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers, Xander Bogaerts played in his second consecutive game for Boston Red Sox in a home-game against Atlanta Braves. Bogaerts again was the designated hitter, while Ozzie Albies was the starting second baseman for Atlanta. Boston won the 8½ inning game with a 7-2 score. Bogaerts was 1-for-2, Albies was 0-for-3.

In the top of the first inning, Albies flied out off of starting pitcher Martín Pérez. Atlanta-starter Ian Anderson struckout the side in his first inning. The righthander first struckout Kiké Hernández, then did the same with Alex Verdugo and Bogaerts. Pérez struckout three batters in the second Atlanta-at bat, but the Venezuelan lefthander also gave up a single.

In the bottom of the second inning, Hunter Renfroe homered to put Boston ahead.

In the third inning, both Albies and Bogaerts got their next bat bat. Albies grounded out, but Boston added two more runs. Panamanian Jonathan Araúz (who made his Major League-debut last year) led off with a double and Kiké Hernández walked. They respectively scored on a sacfrice fly by Alex Verdugo and a double by Bogaerts, who moved to third base on the throw to the plate. Next batter Rafael Devers struckout and although he was the second out, the inning ended, as pitcher Ian Anderson had reached his pitch-count of 20 pitches per inning. And yes, this also is possible in an exhibition game, ending an inning with only two outs. Anderson returned the next inning, began with another strikeout, then was relieved.

In the top of the fifth, Albies struckout in his third at bat after Atlanta had scored its first run on a grounder by Ronald Acuña. Albies was replaced in the bottom of the sixth by Sean Kazmar. In the same at bat, Bogaerts also left the game.

Boston added four runs in the eighth inning when non-roster player Michael Gettys hit a grand slam homerun. Atlanta then scored its second run in the ninth.

At Peoria Stadium in Peoria, Jurickson Profar was the starting centerfielder for San Diego Padres. In the 9-inning home-game against Arizona Diamondbacks, Profar was 0-for-3. Arizona won 6-3.

Profar led off the second inning off of starting pitcher Josh Green and struckout. He then popped out with a runner on second base to end the fourth at bat.

In the seventh inning, Profar also closed the at bat, this time with a grounder. He was then replaced by Jorge Mateo in the top of the eighth inning.

Arizona broke an 1-1 tie in the sixth inning when Josh VanMeter hit a 3-run homerun. In the ninth, Trayce Thompson added a 2-run homerun for the D-backs.

At FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Carter Kieboom started at third base for Washington Nationals in a 4-3 home-win against New York Mets. Washington scored the two deciding runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In his first at bat, Kieboom led off in the bottom of the third inning, but he then popped out. He then got his second at bat with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. This time, Kieboom was struckout by reliever Edwin Diaz.

Kieboom was replaced in the top of the seventh by Yasmany Torres, who took over at first base. Jordy Mercer became the new third baseman. In the bottom of the ninth, it was Torres who delivered a walk-off, runscoring single that gave Washington a 4-3 win.
