DE BILT (Neth.) - On a very rainy and cold Opening Day, Roef! registered a minimal 1-0 victory at Centrals on Saturday (April 11), scoring the lone run in the seventh inning. Before the start of the first game, Mrs. Madeleine Bakker, Alderman for Sports Affairs of the Municipality of De Bilt, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Hereafter, the second game was started as well. Roef! took a quick 2-0 lead on two hits in the first at bat, but then the game was stopped due to heavy rain and not resumed anymore. The game is re-scheduled for Sunday, April 19.

All other double-headers on this Opening Day in the new Silver League also were bothered by the rain.
The second games of the double-headers between UVV and Ban-Topa Future Stars in Vleuten and Twins and Euro Stars in Oosterhout also were cancelled. Ban-Topa nipped UVV 10-9 in its opener, while Tiwns opened with a 3-1 victory.
In Bussum, the first game between HCAW and Gryphons went underway, but was halted, as was the opener between Amsterdam Pirates and Zwijndrecht in Amsterdam.
Only Onze Gezellen and Almere '90 were able to play both games. Onze Gezellen won 16-6 and 5-3.

Game 1

Centrals and Roef! opened the new season with a great pitching match-up between American Sara Moulton and New Zealander Jasmin Kaiaruna. It was an interesting pitching duel from the beginning. It was Centrals that created the most scoring opportunities, but it was simply unable to score. Centrals outhit Roef! 8-5 and left seven runners in scoring position. Roef! stranded only one runner in scoring position, then struck at the right moment in the seventh and final inning to win 1-0.

Sara Moulton, who is on the roster of this years Chicago Bandits in the National Pro Fastpitch, started strong with three strikeouts in the opening at bat. She would struckout ten batters in this game. She then gave up a 2-out single to Nathalie Hosten in the top of the second inning. Runner Ellen Doossche, who had reached on an error, was then hit by the batted ball, which ended the inning, but according to the scoring-rules, the batter is then credited with a basehit.

In the third inning, Wies Ligtvoet singled with two outs and stole second base to become the lone runner for Roef! to get into scoring position until the deciding seventh at bat.

Centrals reached base more often, but it was prevented from scoring either by pitcher Jasmin Kaiaruna herself or the Roef!-defense.

In the bottom of the first inning, Jasmin Carlson led off with a double and Cheyenne Bumpus singled. Two flyouts and a strikeout followed.

In the second inning, Petya Sokolová led off with a double, but stranded on third base. In the third, Carlson reached on an infield-hit. With one out, Franka van Dijk reached on a bunt-single. But this time, an infield-fly and a strikeout ended the inning.

In the fourth, Sokolová led off with her second basehit, but was left again, then two runners stranded in the fifth. In the sixth, Sara Moulton singled with one out. But Roef! then turned a double play on a sacrice bunt-attempt.

And that set up the deciding seventh inning. With one out, Ellen Doossche singled, then next batter Sophie Mollee connected for a double, which brought the runner in all the way from first base. And that would be the decisive hit in this game. Mollee got into scoring position on a following grounder, then Jasmin Kaiaruna was walked intentionally to set up a force place. Moulton ended the inning with a strikeout, but Centrals faced an 1-0 deficit.

The suspense arose in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Jasmin Carlson and Cheyenne Bumpus both walked to put the tying run at second base. But hereafter, Jasmin Kaiaruna struckout the next two batters to seal the victory.
