Game 6: Granma vs. Matanzas
Both teams got a chance to open the score in the first inning, but were unable to do so.
For Matanzas, Yadil Mujica Díaz and Ariel Sánchez Sánchez singled with one out off of starter Leandro Martínez Figueredo in the top of the first inning.
The team got the bases loaded with two outs when Jefferson Delgado Castañeda walked, but they were all left behind.
In the bottom of the first inning, Granma's lead-off hitter Roel Santos Martínez walked, then Osvaldo Abreu Sánchez singled off of starter Noelvis Entenza González.
Santos then moved to third base when a double play was made, but he stranded there.
Matanzas got no scoring opportunities in its next two at bats, but Granma opened the score in the bottom of the third.
With one out, Roel Santos Martínez singled and stole second base.
With two outs, he scored on a double by Raico Santos Almeida.
Hereafter, Carlos Benítez Pérez walked, but a flyout ended the at bat.
In the top of the fourth inning, Bárbaro Erisbel Arruebaruena Escalante singled with two outs for Matanzas, but he was left behind on first base.
Arruebaruena is an experienced player, who participated with Cuba in both the Haarlem Baseball Week (2012) and the World Poirt Tournament (2013), the two big international tournaments in the Netherlands.
He also played for the Cuban National Team in the World Baseball Classic in 2013.
And in 2014, the infielder briefly played in the Major League for Los Angeles Dodgers after having left Cuba in 2013.
He was signed for five years in February 2014, started the season in Double-A, but made his Major League-debut a month later.
However, he returned to Triple-A and then was assigned to Single-A after being involved in a bench clearing-brawl.
Erisbel Arruebaruena played in 22 Major League-games, then played the entire 2015 season in the Minor Leagues.
In May 2016, he was suspended by the Dodgers and in late 2017, he played in only eight Rookie League-games.
He then didn't play in 2018 and was released in July of that year.
In 2019, he became the first former Major Leaguer to return to the Cuban Serie Nacional.
In the bottom of the fourth, Guillermo García García led off for Granma with a single, moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Iván Prieto González, but also was left behind.
In the fifth inning, a Matanzas-runner was caught stealing at second base.
Granma got runners on first and second base with one out in its fifth, but a double play then closed the at bat.
And with that, it was still only an 1-0 score in favor of Granma after five complete innings.
But that changed and the game was turned around when Matanzas rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Yadir Drake Domínguez led off with a double, moved to third base on a single by Jefferson Delgado Castañeda and scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Yariel Duque Salgado.
With the score now at 1-1, César García Rondón took over the pitching.
He issued an intentional walk to Bárbaro Erisbel Arruebaruena Escalante to set up a force play, but then got the bases loaded when he walked pinch-hitter Juan Miguel Vázquez Trujillo.
All three scored when Eduardo Blanco Díaz followed with a baseclearing, 3-run double into leftfield.
The ball hit the ground in front of leftfielder Raico Santos Almeida, but then jumped up over him and rolled all the way to the warning track.
Blanco, who advanced to third base on the throw to the plate, then scored himself with two outs on a double down the righfield-line by Yadil Mujica Díaz to make it a 5-1 score.
Miguel David Paradelo Aguilar took over the pitching, closed with a strikeout, but the game appeared to have turned the way of Matanzas.
Granma got one run back in its sixth at bat.
Guillermo José Avilés Difurnó led off with a double, advanced on a single by Guillermo García García and scored on a double play-grounder by Iván Prieto González.
Granma scored another run in the seventh when Roel Santos Martínez homered with one out.
Next batter Osvaldo Abreu Sánchez walked, which led to a pitching change.
Naykel Yoel Cruz Saldívar took over, but walked Raico Santos Almeida.
He was then supported with a double play, but Granma had narrowed the deficit to 5-3.
Matanzas had left runners behind on first and third base in the top of the seventh, then stranded a runner on first base in the top of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, it became a new ball game, as Granma came alongside.
Guillermo José Avilés Difurnó led off with a walk and Guillermo García García singled, which was followed by the next pitching change.
Joel Suárez Hernández took the mound and saw the runners advance on a sacrifice bunt by Iván Prieto González.
Hereafter, Avilés scored on a sacrifice fly by Yulián Rafael Milán Santos.
Centerfielder Eduardo Blanco Díaz made a good throw to the plate, but catcher Andrys Pérez Garcia misplayed the ball.
When he would have had control of the ball, Avilés probably would have been out.
But now he scored and on the error García advanced to third base.
Next batter Miguel Antonio González Puente walked, then Roel Santos Martínez delivered a runscoring single to make it a 5-5 score.
A strikeout ended the at bat.
In the top of the ninth, Matanzas was retired in order by closer Joel Mojena Machado.
In the bottom of the ninth, Raico Santos Almeida led off for Granma with a walk, then moved into scoring position on a single by team-captain Carlos Benítez Pérez, which led to another pitching change.
Jonder Martínez Martínez took over, but the 42-year old veteran got the bases loaded when he hit Guillermo José Avilés Difurnó with his first pitch.
Designated hitter Guillermo García García followed with a walk-off single into deep rightfield (his fourth basehit in the game) to bring in Santos with the winning run.
Matanzas was dethroned as champion and Granma captured its first title since the 2017-2018 season.
